Donated by Dr. Murray Baron, Chief of Rheumatology at the Jewish General Hospital (JGH). The device originally belonged to Dr. Baron’s late father, Dr. Henry A. Baron, one of the first physicians at the JGH when it opened its doors in 1934. It is likely that this haemocytometer was purchased while he was still a medical student at McGill University. Haemocytometer is a medical device used to count blood cells. The interior of the case is marked with “H. Baron” and “4649 St. Urbain St, Montreal”. The device contains one blood counter for microscope, two glass pipettes, and one cover glass. It seems that two components are missing.
