Q: Where can I get more information on Oacis?
For patients and the public:
Q: How will Oacis improve my experience as a patient at the JGH?
A: Oacis allows clinicians to be more efficient. Whereas a paper chart could only be in one place and viewed by one clinician at a time, Oacis provides your doctor with the medical information needed to make decisions regarding your treatment anytime and anywhere they need it. This will eliminate delays in ordering tests and/or treatment previously caused by the need to wait for your paper charts.
Q: What is Oacis and what does it do?
A: Oacis is a clinical information system and is part of the Jewish General Hospital's Electronic Medical Record (EMR). It allows clinicians to access your chart faster than they were able to when it was on paper.
Q: Will Oacis help my doctor treat me?
A: Yes. Oacis gives your doctor access to your complete chart, allowing him or her to make clinical decisions in a more efficient and timely way.
Q: Will my chart remain confidential?
A: Yes. Your chart will continue to be confidential and accessible only to the clinicians involved in your treatment.
Q: Will my doctor be able to see my chart and/or test results from another hospital?
A: Though this isn't possible today, it will be soon. This is currently under development, and when the time comes, blood test results, radiology results, current medications, allergies and more will be accessible by clinicians in hospitals across Quebec.
Q: Can I see my medical information?
A: Yes, but in order to view your chart, you must be accompanied by a doctor. They will be there to answer any questions you may have.
Q: Would I be able to find out who has access to my chart?
A: Yes, clinicians involved in your treatment have access to your chart.
Q: Would I be able to find out who has seen my chart?
A: Yes, a log of clinicians who have seen your chart is kept.
Q: Can I change my own demographic information?
A: No, but your demographic information can be updated when you visit the Emergency Department, come to the hospital for an appointment or when you are admitted.
