Overview
The JGH Psychology Division provides clinical service, consultation, teaching, supervision and research within the Department of Psychiatry and other medical specialties within the hospital.
Much of the psychologists' service, teaching and research functions are carried out in the Department of Psychiatry proper, however Psychology participates in services and research of other hospital departments as well.
JGH Psychology interns are well grounded in skills of evaluation and treatment with a variety of patients. Theoretical orientations at the hospital range from psychoanalytic to behavioural, to more eclectic approaches. Regardless of approach, the department emphasizes competence in assessing problem situations, in exercising sound judgment and in effecting thoughtful solutions. The goal is to foster flexible and adaptive clinicians.
