Dr. Marc A. Tewfik

Marc Tewfik has acquired an undergraduate degree in Honours Biochemistry before obtaining his MD degree from McGill University in Montreal Canada, in 2003. He then went on to complete his surgical training in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery in 2008, and has earned a Master of Science concurrent with his clinical training. The subject of his thesis was an investigation of the association between genes responsible for innate immunity and chronic rhinosinusitis. During his training, his interest in clinical rhinology and basic research eventually earned him the American Rhinologic Society Research Award for best paper. He has completed an 18-month rhinology fellowship in South Australia, under the tutelage of Professor Peter-John Wormald. This training has allowed a unique level of expertise in the field of rhinology and endoscopic skull base surgery. Marc has thus far produced over 25 peer-reviewed publications, including eight textbook chapters. He is a reviewer for several otolaryngology journals, has presented at various international meetings, and has been invited as faculty at advanced sinus surgery courses in Australia, England, the United States and Canada. His research interests include the role of innate immunity in chronic rhinosinusitis, as well as the repair of large skull base defects. He is currently Assistant Professor in the department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at McGill University.
